Georgia Title Pawn FAQ — common questions answered

Georgia Title Pawn FAQ: The Basics

What is a title pawn in Georgia?

A title pawn in Georgia allows you to use your vehicle’s certificate of title as collateral to receive cash. Under Georgia’s Pawnbroker Act, the title pawn business holds your title during the pawn period. You keep possession of your vehicle and continue driving it. Once the pawn is paid in full, your title is returned to you.

In Georgia, what many people call a car title loan is legally structured as a title pawn under the state’s Pawnbroker Act. The terms are often used interchangeably in everyday conversation. Georgia Title Pawn is a licensed Georgia title pawn business, so the product you receive is a title pawn.

Yes. Georgia Title Pawn is a licensed title pawn broker business in the State of Georgia and has served Northeast Georgia since 2015 from locations in Buford and Oakwood.

If you arrive with your vehicle and all required documents, the process typically takes about 30 minutes. You leave with cash in hand and your vehicle.

No appointment is necessary. You are welcome to walk into either the Buford or Oakwood location during business hours. You may also call or text ahead with questions about your documents. If your question isn’t covered in this Georgia Title Pawn FAQ, call or text either location.

Money and Cost

How much does a title pawn cost?

Title pawn charges vary based on the amount pawned and the length of the pawn period, and are set in accordance with Georgia’s Pawnbroker Act. Before you sign anything, Georgia Title Pawn reviews all charges, terms, and repayment options with you in full, so you know the exact cost before you agree to anything.

Georgia Title Pawn inspects your vehicle in person and checks its value against a nationally recognized vehicle pricing guide. The vehicle’s year, make, model, mileage, and condition all affect the amount we are able to offer.

You receive your cash the same day, at the end of the visit. Most customers are finished in about 30 minutes and leave with cash in hand.

No. Georgia Title Pawn explains every charge and every term before you sign anything. If a cost is not clear to you, ask, and we will explain it again. You should know the exact cost of the transaction before you agree to it. If your question isn’t covered in this Georgia Title Pawn FAQ, call or text either location.

Credit and Qualification

Do I need good credit to get a title pawn?

No. Georgia Title Pawn does not run a credit check. We are not concerned with your credit history, bankruptcy, or foreclosure. Your vehicle title serves as your credit.

No. Georgia Title Pawn does not run a credit check at any point in the title pawn process. The certificate of title is the collateral, which is why your credit history is not a factor.

Yes. A past bankruptcy or foreclosure does not disqualify you from a title pawn at Georgia Title Pawn, because no credit check is run. What matters is that the vehicle title is lien-free and in your name.

Yes. Proof of income is one of the six documents required for a title pawn at Georgia Title Pawn. Recent pay stubs, bank statements, or comparable documentation are acceptable.

Bring your vehicle, your lien-free vehicle title in your name, a GA Drivers License, proof of residency such as a utility bill, proof of insurance, and proof of income. If your question isn’t covered in this Georgia Title Pawn FAQ, call or text either location.

Your Vehicle

Will I be able to keep driving my car?

Yes. You keep your vehicle throughout the pawn period. Georgia Title Pawn holds your certificate of title as collateral, not your car.

A title pawn requires a lien-free title, which means the vehicle must be paid off and no lender may hold a claim against it. If you are still making payments to a lender, the title is not lien-free and cannot be used for a title pawn.

Georgia Title Pawn accepts cars, trucks, SUVs, and vans for personal title pawns, and work trucks, box trucks, cargo vans, utility vehicles, and fleet vehicles for commercial title pawns.

Yes. Proof of current insurance on the vehicle being pawned is one of the six required documents.

Yes. Georgia Title Pawn inspects the vehicle in person because its condition and mileage directly affect the amount we can offer. Bring the vehicle with you to either the Buford or Oakwood location.

Commercial Vehicles

Can I get a title pawn on a commercial vehicle?

Yes. Georgia Title Pawn specializes in commercial vehicle title pawns for business owners, including work trucks, box trucks, cargo vans, utility vehicles, and fleet vehicles. The title must be lien-free and in your name or your business name.

Yes. For a commercial title pawn, the certificate of title may be held in your business name rather than your personal name, as long as it is lien-free. Bring documentation showing your authority to act for the business.

Business owners across Northeast Georgia use commercial title pawns to free up working capital quickly, using the equity in vehicles the business already owns outright. The vehicle stays on the road and keeps earning while the pawn is outstanding. If your question isn’t covered in this Georgia Title Pawn FAQ, call or text either location.

Renewals, Payoff and Locations

Can I pay off my title pawn early?

Yes. Georgia Title Pawn allows early payoff at any point during the pawn period with no penalty. Call or text either location to get your exact payoff amount before you come in.

Call Georgia Title Pawn before the pawn period ends. In most cases there are options, including renewing the pawn for another period. Call Buford at 470-588-7296 or Oakwood at 470-577-8838 and we will tell you honestly what your options are.
